Full Text Search with Wildcard and Less than Five Characters Yields Unexpected Results

Technote Number: 1092746

Problem:
This issue was reported to Quality Engineering as SPR# FBEE4KMPCC and has been
addressed in Notes 5.0.6.

Excerpt from the Lotus Notes and Lotus Domino Release 5.0.6 QMR fix list:

Client
SPR# FBEE4KMPCC - Full text searches with short strings (under 4 characters)
containing wildcards will now retrieve all found documents. This regression was
introduced in 5.0.3.

Currently the only workaround is to enter at least four characters before using
the * wildcard.

Supporting Information:
NOTE: The issue was originally reported to also have been fixed in Notes 6.0.
However, that is not the case; the issue persists in Notes 6.x. This was
reported to Quality Engineering as SPR# LOMI5YFCLG and has been addressed in
Domino 6.0.5/6.5.4.

Excerpt from the Lotus Notes and Domino Release 6.5.4 and 6.0.5 MR fix list
(available at http://www.ibm.com/developerworks/lotus/):

Full-text indexing
SPR# LOMI5YFCLG - Fixed a problem where Full-text indexing failed and returned
missing results when searching with a wild-card "*".
