You can choose whether mail sends multilingual mail messages in Unicode, Best Match, or if it prompts you each time to ask which format.

In standard Notes

  1. Click File > Preferences.
Macintosh OS X users: Click Lotus Notes > Preferences.
  2. Click the plus sign beside Mail, and then click Internet.
  3. Under Multilingual Internet mail format, click one of the available options.
    • Use Unicode (UTF-8) - This option works for sending mail to people who use Lotus Notes or most other email clients. For a (somewhat-reliable) list of which email providers support Unicode, you can see the second column of the chart in this wikipedia article: Comparison of e-mail clients
    • Use Best Match - Use this option if you don't think that a recipient of your mail has a mail program capable of reading Unicode fonts.
    • Use Unicode and prompt or Use Match and prompt - These options cause Notes to prompt you when you send a mail message, so you can choose between Unicode and Best Match for each multilingual email you send.
