Changes To Screen Saver While Notes is Timed-out Can Result in Notes Performance Issues

Technote Number: 1171528

Problem:
This issue has been reported to Quality Engineering, and has been addressed in
Notes 6.5.3 Client.

Excerpt from the Lotus Notes and Domino Release 6.5.3 MR fix list (available at
http://www.ibm.com/developerworks/lotus/):

Client UI
SPR# JEIN5ZJ6GE - Fixed a performance problem where Notes would sometimes
attempt to make network connections to Domino servers for the open window tabs
when logging in after idle. This problem happens particularly often when using
a screen saver. This regression was introduced in 6.0.
You can work around this issue by pressing CNTRL + BREAK to stop the Notes
client from attempting to connect to the remote databases. You may need to do
this several time, if there are many databases open. To avoid this issue, do
not make changes to the screen saver options while Notes is logged out but open
on the desktop.
STEPS TO REPRODUCE

1. Start the Notes Client.

2. Open a number of remote databases.

3. Press F5 to logout of the Notes client.

4. Remove the network connection (pull cable, remove wireless card, etc.).
This is not strictly necessary, but exacerbates the problem and makes it easier
to reproduce

5. Change some screen saver settings.

6. Press ENTER to return to Notes and bring up the password prompt

7. Enter your Notes password

Note that you then have long delays while Notes tries to connect to the
network.
