SPRTechnote

Users are always prompted to set Notes as default email at each login

Technote Number: 1179137

Problem:
This issue was reported to Quality Engineering and has been fixed in Notes
6.5.3, 6.0.5 and 7.0.

Excerpt from the Lotus Notes and Domino Release 6.5.3 MR fix list (available at
http://www.ibm.com/developerworks/lotus):

Client UI
SPR# MDRW63QKXZ - Changed how Notes detects the default email setting when the
user does not have local admin privileges. Prior to this fix, a user with
restricted rights was always prompted to "Set Notes as Default E-mail" during
login. This regression was introduced in 6.5.2.

As a workaround, set the Notes client as the default mail client in your
browser settings. For example, for MS Internet Explorer, you would select from
the menu: Tools --> Internet Options --> Programs, and then select "Lotus
Notes" from the "EMail:" pulldown.

Supporting Information
While the SPR MDRW63QKXZ was a regression issue introduced in 6.5.2/6.0.4, the
issue was actually observed in releases at least as far back as 6.5/6.0.3.
This issue was reported to Quality Engineering as SPR# MUY5SAPV9 and has also
been fixed in Notes releases 6.5.3, 6.0.5, and 7.0.
