This issue was reported to Quality Engineering and has been fixed in Domino
6.5.5 and Notes 6.5.5.

SPR# PCOY5YUKBX - This fixes a problem of missing results when searching with a
wild-card "*". This problem is fixed in both the Server and Client code. It
depends on where the database resides. If the database is a local replica, the
fix pertains to the Client. This regression was introduced in 6.0.

You can work around the issue by further narrowing the search using the search
bar options and thus eliminating the need to include underscore. For example,
searching only a single field for the AA*, or including another relevant
character in the search string after the underscore (AA_1*), rather than
searching the whole database for the AA_*, and so forth. More >
