Problem:
This issue was reported to Lotus Software Quality Engineering and has been
addressed in Notes / Domino 5.0.12.

SPR# MNOI4QVN3F - Fixed a problem where downloading from the server did not
create a person document.
As a workaround for versions prior to 5.0.12, open the Server document, and on
the Domino Web Engine tab (found under Internet Protocols), set the option,
'Session Authentication' to "Disabled" or "Single Server".
Supporting Information:
Starting with release 5.0.6 DOLS works with Single-Server Session Based
Authentication. Multi-Server Server Based Authentication (Single Sign-On)
functionality is available in Domino 6 Server, and is targeted for inclusion in
5.0.12 for the R5 codestream.
Session authentication is configured in the Server document under Internet
Protocols - Domino Web Engine tab. This allows multiple databases to be
accessed during the same authenticated session.
To view the session-based authentication options, go to the Server document,
Internet Protocols tab, Domino Web Engine tab. Possible values for the Session
Authentication field are as follows:
