Technote Number: 1099398
Problem:
This issue has been addressed in Notes/Domino 5.0.9. This issue does not occur
in Notes/Domino 6.0.
Excerpt from the Lotus Notes and Domino Release 5.0.9 MR fix list (available at
http://www.notes.net):
SPR# JHOD4MNRAZ, MGAN4QPMNQ - Restore asynchronous notification over existing
sessions for new mail notification, console broadcast commands, and view
updates. This functionality was lost in R5.0.
SPR #MGAN4QPMNQ was "further" fixed in Notes/Domino 5.0.12:
Excerpt from the Lotus Notes and Domino Release 5.0.12 MR fix list (available
at http://www.lotus.com/ldd):
Client UI - Views/Folders
SPR# MGAN4QPMNQ - Improved response performance of live console. If a view is
set to "on refresh" and a user creates a document, user two will see this
document automatically without having to refresh the view. This regression was
introduced in 5.0.
Supporting Information:
Steps To Reproduce Problem:
1. Open your mail database in Design mode.
2. Create a view to show all documents.
3. Set the view properties to "Refresh Display" and select "Auto, After First
Use for Index."
4. Send yourself an email.
Note that the display indicator still shows and the view is not refreshed
automatically. Switching to another view or folder and back does not perform
the refresh.
Note:
The fixes for this issue have made some additional issues more apparent.
Domino servers will observe slightly higher CPU usage relative to asynchronous
new mail notifications. The servers will also experience sessions not being
released as expected, which may result in a "Server not responding" error.
For more information on the issues see the following documents:
"Asynchronous New Mail Notifications Cause Higher CPU Consumption in Domino
5.0.9 and Later" (#1087595)
"Sessions Are Not Getting Released in Domino; Ghost Sessions" (#1106365)
These issues can be worked around by disabling the Notes/Domino 5.0.9 fix noted
above using the following parameter in the server's Notes.ini file:
IOCP_DISABLE_ASYNC_NOTIFICATION=1
Use of the above parameter may also impact remote console capabilities;
specifically, it may essentially disable the remote live console. You can
still use the Domino Administration client to enter console commands and see
their output with IOCP_DISABLE_ASYNC_NOTIFICATION=1 set. However, the actual
live console, where you see all output directed to the console of a given
server, is disabled when IOCP_DISABLE_ASYNC_NOTIFICATION=1 is in the Notes.ini.
