Default Format Option for Outgoing Mail in iNotes Web Access Cannot be Changed for version 5.0.10 and Below

Technote Number: 1101017

Problem:
For versions prior to iNotes Web Web Access 5.0.11, this default setting could
not be changed. This issue was reported to Lotus Software Quality Engineering
and has been addressed in iNotes Web Access for Domino 5.0.11 and 6.0.

Excerpt from the Lotus Notes and Domino Release 5.0.11 MR fix list (available
at http://www.lotus.com/ldd/R5FixList.nsf):

iNotes Web Access
SPR# DGUY59WNKD - New Notes.ini parameter added (iNotes_WA_MessageFormat = 1)
which will only allow users to use Plain Text editor when composing messages
and the messages be sent in plain text.

Begining with Domino 5.0.12, there is a setting in the Server Configuration
document (on the iNotes Web Access tab) called "When sending mail, set format
to". The two options for that setting are:

1. Plain Text
2. Let user decide

Beginning with 5.0.12 and 6.0, instead of using the Notes INI Parameter
(iNotes_WA_MessageFormat = 1), this field should be set in the Server
Configuration document.

Note: Make sure the server Directory is upgraded to the latest 5.0.12
template. If not, users will not have this option in their Server
Configuration document.

For versions prior to 5.0.11, it is not possible to change this default. You
must select Plain Text for each message that you want to send with the Plain
Text format.

Supporting Information:

The Format button is an option available in the iNotes5.ntf template file that
shipped with Domino 5.0.10. To access the format button, create a new memo.
The Format button is at the top of the browser window next to the Options
button. This allows users to select either Rich Text or Plain Text as a format
option for the new memo. Currently Rich Text is selected by default. It is not
possible to change the default to Plain Text. This functionality is being
reviewed for the next feature release of iNotes Web Access.
