Domino 6.x Stops Delivering Mail to a Specific User

Technote Number: 1169525

Problem:
This issue was reported to Quality Engineering, and has been addressed in
Domino 6.5.2 Fix Pack 1, Domino 6.5.3 Fix Pack 1, and Domino 6.5.4.

Excerpt from the Lotus Notes and Domino Release 6.5.2 FP1 and 6.5.3 FP1 fix
lists (available at http://www.ibm.com/developerworks/lotus):

Calendaring & Scheduling
SPR# THTO5UDKZ3 - Fixed a router hang or loop which occurred when the message
had nested quotation marks in the common name. For example:
ORGANIZER;CN=""Mary
Smith_Jones/Acme"<kbl":mailto:"Mary_,Smith_Jones/Acme"<kbl@mailsystem.net. Most
cases of this problem were fixed in 6.5.3, but an additional case was found and
addressed in 6.5.4. All known occurrences have also been fixed in 6.0.5, 6.5.3
FP1 and 6.5.2 FP1.

This problem is caused by specific messages containing problem ICS
attachments. Specifically, nested quotation entries in the ICS attachment
cause the router to loop while processing these mails. Eventually the CPU
utilization will jump to 90%+ and resources will be affected causing a server
reboot. The problem does not happen to all incoming mails with ICS
attachments; only ICS attachments with nested quotation marks.

According to the ABNF standard (RFC 2234), nested quotations are actually NOT
allowed, however for some reason they are created in the calendar file, as
follows:

ORGANIZER;CN =""Darragh ... Crilly/Classical AS"<DJC"..
:mailto:"Darragh_..._Crilly/Classical"<DJC@Classical.com

Additional Information:

If the Domino server runs on a zSeries platform and you examine an SVC Dump of
OMVS and Router, you see the following data:
