Problem:
The unread mark table is not properly updated when deletion stubs have been
purged in a database. This prevents a sequence of mail messages from being
added to the unread mark table, and subsequently causes those messages to
appear as already read.Supporting Information:
This issue was reported to Lotus Quality Engineering and has been addressed in
Domino 5.0.4.
Excerpt from the Lotus Notes and Lotus Domino Release 5.0.4 QMR fix list:
Client UI - Unread Marks
SPR# JHOD4H6SES, NBAR4EDHRQ, JHOD4KFL6Z - New mail could incorrect arrive
already marked read. This problem has been resolved.
Purging of deletion stubs takes place each time the database is opened, if the
database is eligible for purging. The time of eligibility is determined by the
purge interval found in the replication settings. This interval is equal to
one third (1/3) of the number of days specified in the "Remove documents not
modified in the last xxx days" setting. This is found in the Space Savers
section of Replication Settings for the database and defaults to 90 days,
meaning that the purge interval defaults to 30 days. For more information,
refer to the document titled "Q&As About Replication Purge Intervals and Cutoff
Dates" (#158404 ).
Once this time of eligibility is reached, any process that opens the database
exclusively will trigger this purge. This most commonly occurs when the Update
task is run on the database and is evident by the following message in the
Miscellaneous Events view of the log file:
"Releasing unused storage for mail\xxx.nsf"
For more information on what triggers purging, refer to the document titled
"How Does Purging of Documents Occur in Notes?" (#110794 ).
However, the problem with unread marks only occurs if stubs are actually
deleted. This message does not indicate that stubs are deleted, only that the
purging is taking place. Therefore, this message will occur for databases that
do not exhibit the problem.
