Notes crash when upgrading Service Pack from SP1 to SP2 on Win XP or Win XP Tablet PC Edition

Technote Number: 1188981

Problem:
Note: For information regarding support for the Windows XP Tablet PC Edition
please refer to the technote "Is Windows XP Tablet PC Edition 2005 supported
with Notes Client?" (#1106884).
----------------------------------------
The issue was been reported to Quality Engineering (SPR #MCMA65XJHG), and has
been fixed in Notes 6.0.5 Client and Notes 6.5.4 Client.

Excerpt from the Lotus Notes and Lotus Domino Release 6.5.4 and 6.0.5 MR fix
lists (available at http://www.ibm.com/developerworks/lotus/):

Mail Client
SPR# MCMA65XJHG - Fixed a sporadic Notes crash when closing documents with
Active Accessibility turned on. This regression was introduced in 6.0. This fix
applies to both Windows XP and Windows XP Tablet PC Edition. The issue is more
prevalent on Windows XP Tablet PC Edition; it is unlikely to occur on Windows
XP unless Advanced Text Services are enabled.

Workarounds are to either:

- disable Advanced Text Services. You can disable Advanced Text Services
either globally for all applications, or just for Notes. Please refer to
Microsoft.com for instructions on how to disable Advanced Text Services, both
for an individual application (such as Notes Client) and for all applications.

Currently, information for disabling Advanced Text Services appears at the
following Microsoft address.

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;313176

Please Note: It is not known how long the URL above will remain valid. If the
URL does not work, query on "Advanced Text Services" in the Knowledge Base at
http://support.microsoft.com/.

or

- downgrade to Windows SP1.
