Fixes contained in this Maintenance Release

Notes/Domino 8.5.1 contains fixes for approximately 1200 known issues, of which the "top 20" are listed below. This list was compiled to identify the issues that most significantly impact customers. Issues were measured by the SPR severity level, the number of hotfixes given out, the number of customers reporting the issue, and the business impact to customers. For a complete list of SPRs fixed in Notes/Domino 8.5.1, see the By Release view of the Notes/Domino Fix List.

Note: A plus symbol (+) before the SPR number indicates a fix for a regression bug. A regression bug is an issue that was introduced in a Maintenance Release that did not exist in previous releases of that code stream. For example, a bug that appears in R8.5 but did not exist in R8.0.2 is a regression.

Client
  • SPR# PRAD7RSL2H - Security vulnerability with viewing Excel spreadsheets has been resolved (Technote #1396492)
  • SPR# PRAD7NSR9Z - Potential Keyview vulnerability in WordPerfect. A security vulnerability has been resolved. (Technote #1377573)
  • SPR# BHAS5TW5EP - New Mail Notification pop-up & Calendar Alarm brings the Notes Client from background to foreground. The default behavior in 8.0.2 is for new mail and alarm dialogs to not steal focus. To display the window in an activated state to take focus, use the Notes.ini variable "AlarmsTakeFocus=1", to reverse the behavior. (Technote #1113895)
  • +SPR# ACGB76ZR6P - This problem occurs when upgrading from previous release to 8.0.1 Notes, and it has been fixed in 8.5.1. The alias name "new" has been removed from bookmark template in 8.5.1. (Technote #1282125)
  • +SPR# SIWA7HF52V - Work was done in Notes 8.5 to put un-referenced HTML attachments on top of the HTML email message this is being displayed. Several usability concerns were discovered as a result, one of which was the fact the user was no longer able to delete the attachment via the right click menu when reading the email message. These attachments are in a section at the top of the form in Notes 8.5.1, and furthermore can be deleted when reading the email message via the right-click menu. (Technote #1376540)

Server
  • +SPR# JCHS7NNM56 - Multiple Domino processes might crash when working with embedded RFC822 blobs in the MIME bodies. (Technote #1381566)
  • +SPR# JCHN7L9KRP - Prevent Domino Server Crash in DBDirMan code after a database fixup or compact is run. (Technote #1395539)
  • SPR# JPAS72TQYU - This issue was most frequently seen on RIM BES servers, but was not BES specific. This had to do with certain configurations of BES servers when failover occurred frequently.
The problem was dependent on a successful failover having occurred. It also had timing and load components, as freed memory had to be reallocated during the failover process for the problem to occur. Panic message in the console was always identical with most instances showing exactly 7600FFFF:
PANIC: OSBBlockAddr: Bad BBlock handle (7600FFFF). The crash was usually on the RIM NBES or Domino nserver process.(Technote #1319361)
  • SPR# TLAM7NGJXY - Fixes a memory leak in BLK_EXECPOOL causing it to reach limit of 128 MB and resulting in server hang.ENABLE_COLLECTION_CLEAN_QUEUE=0 can be used as a workaround. (Technote #1376091)
  • SPR# MIAS7METFE - Addresses an issue where processing corrupt data could cause a server outage. (Technote #1380288)
  • SPR# JCHN7M2NM7 - Server crash and error: "Talk to Russ if you get here" (Technote #1367094)
  • SPR# JFBM7C6GA4 - Fixed a bug in Router TTL (time to live) timing causing delivery failures due to unable to reach remote server. In the case of a DNS error there was a chance we could set the TTL to 34 years. This could cause delivery failures after 24 hours if the route cached was bad. We now set the DNS error TTL at 30 minutes and allow it to be modified by the INI RouterDNSErrorTTL (it sets the DNS error TTL in seconds). (Technote #1386420)
  • SPR# GRCE7R4S4N - Prevent Domino server crash caused by an error condition when soft deleting a document. (Technote #1389390)
  • +SPR# JADS7PSQUS - Fix problem when viewing unread only documents in a view. (Technote #1390750)
  • SPR# WJCL7LHT34 - Fixed a Domino Server crash due to invalid registry performance counter values. (Technote #1371979)
  • SPR# LMAN7JAHPG - Corrected an issue which caused the unwanted removal of folders from the archive database. Archiving will no longer remove folders from the archive database that have been removed from the mail database. (Technote #1368251)

LotusScript
  • +SPR# PRUN7NFPLX - LotusScript method ViewNavigator.GetNext could crash when navigating a very large view, if the view was using specific design options. This has been fixed and the performance of this method, depending on the format of the view, can be up to 2x faster.
  • +SPR# JAOE7JCQUY - Fixed server crashes when upgrade of mailfile design is invoked via seamless mail upgrade(SMU) (Technote #1316350)
  • SPR# JCOL7MEJ95 - Fixed a problem where the use of the IsDate function would later cause a crash. (Technote #1381433)

iNotes
  • SPR# JCIK7PFGCT - Fixed iNotes Formula errors for mail files with upgraded designs to Domino 8.5.x and are controlled by Admin Policies (Technote #1383920)
