Introduction

There are multiple options for installing IBM Enterprise Integrator (IEI) server.

a) IEI installation using Server ID for both Domino and IEI

b) IEI installation using Server ID and USER.ID for both Domino and IEI respectively

c) IEI installation on Notes Client

In this article we will elaborate the installation of IEI server on the IBM Notes Client. In this scenario, all IEI executables and directories will be stored in Notes Client directories and the IEI databases will be stored on a Domino Server.

Prerequisites to install IEI on Notes Client

1. The IEI server version and the Notes Client and Domino version must match, for example Notes/Domino 9.0 with IEI 9.0.
2. For installing IEI to a Notes client, set the Notes ID to share its password with other Notes-based systems. To avoid multiple prompting for password, ensure that the Notes client is running during IEI install.

3. Make sure that the Domino Server is running so that the installer can put IEI databases on the server.

4. Establish the correct access rights for Notes ID file:

From the IBM Notes Client, go to File -> Security -> User Security, enter your password when prompted and open the User Security menu. On the Security Basics screen in User Security window, ensure that the setting “Don’t prompt for a password from other Notes programs” is enabled. If “Don’t prompt for a password from other Notes programs” is not enabled then the installer may get hang after entering IEI and Domino Server details.

How to install IEI on Notes Client

You can install the IEI server on a Notes client but the IEI Administrator must reside on a Domino server. IEI Advanced RealTime Activities are not supported in this configuration. For fully functional IEI, the Domino server, IEI server, and IEI Administrator must all reside on the same machine.

Steps for installing IEI server on the Notes Client:
1. Launch the IEI installer and click Next.

2. Accept the License Agreement and click Next

3. Specify the path for the notes.ini file of the Notes Client and then click Next to continue.

4. Verify the User ID file for accessing the Notes Client that the installer picked from the notes.ini and click Next if it is correct.

Figure7. Installer picks User ID from notes.ini

5. Specify the name of the IEI server and the Domino server (that will host the IEI Administrator) and then click Next to continue.

Figure8. Enter IEI and Domino Server details

Note: If correct access rights are not set for User ID then installer may hang on the above window.

6. Select option “This IEI server is not part of an IEI failover cluster” and Click Next.

Figure9.Select 1st Option

7. The Additional Managers screen appears. The Notes ID that you use while installing IEI is entered in the ACL for all the IEI databases created during installation. The default access given is Manager. Click Next.

8. Specify how non-native text is translated across multilingual data communications environments. Based on your selection, the installer sets the EITranslation value in the designated notes.ini file. Make a selection and click Next to continue.

Note: Screens for enabling RealTime Activities and enabling IEI as an add-in task do not appear if you are installing IEI on a Notes client as RealTime Activities are not supported in this configuration and IEI server needs to be start from Programs -- IBM Applications -- IBM Enterprise Integrator for Domino.

9. Specify where program icons are to be located and click Next to continue.

10. You can install the sample databases and/or script vault. Make your selections and click Next to continue.

11. The installer indicates in which directories the documentation, executables, samples, and script vault will be placed. Click Next to continue.

Note: As IEI is installing on Notes Client, hence, it is showing directories of Notes Client.

12. Once Installation completes, Click Next.

13. When installation is complete, the installer displays the following screen. Click Next to continue.

14. You must stop and restart Domino before attempting to run this release of IEI. Click Next to continue.

15. Click Finish to exit the installer.

Note: When you run the installer, it creates a log file (IEIinst.log) that lists the files created and where they were installed. The file is located in the IEIdir directory.

All IEI executables, license files, uninstaller etc will be placed under Notes Program Directory and IEI databases are stored on Domino Server .

How to start IEI and track activity status

Start the IEI server, click Programs -- IBM Applications -- IBM Enterprise Integrator for Domino – Enter ID password and the IEI server will initialize.

Figure22. IEI initialization window

Options for Status, List, Help and Quit shows server status, current activity execution, detail of each option and stop IEI server respectively.

Whenever any batch activity runs, the status will be shown in same window.

Figure25. Activity status

Note: IEI Advanced RealTime Activities are not supported in this configuration. For fully
functional IEI, the Domino server, IEI server, and IEI Administrator must
all reside on the same machine.

IEI on Notes Client in cluster setup

IEI on the Notes Client is not supported in a cluster setup. Because of this, selecting either of the options below during IEI installation will cause IEI initialization to fail.

 This IEI server is the first server in the IEI failover cluster.
 This IEI server is an additional server in the IEI failover cluster

You can install IEI as stand alone application on the Notes Client when Domino Servers are in a cluster.

Common issues

The installer throws any of the following error after clicking Next when it picks up ID file from notes.ini

Figure26. Prompt during IEI initialization

Figure27. Prompt during IEI initialization

Resolution: Make sure that the Notes ID is set to share its password with other Notes-based systems i.e. setting “Don’t prompt for a password from other Notes programs” is enabled.

Initialization failure

IEI initialization fails with the error below if you installed IEI on Notes Client with the cluster option” This IEI server is the first server in the IEI failover cluster

Figure28. IEI initialization failure

Workaround: Disable the field “All IEI servers are in a Domino Cluster” from the IEI Administration database and start IEI again.

Uninstalling IEI

For uninstalling IEI, launch the uninstaller from the Notes Client machine where the IEI server is installed.

1. The Welcome screen displays. Click Next to continue.

2. Select the items that you wish to uninstall from the screen shown
below. Click Next to continue.

3. The following confirmation screen appears. If you are satisfied with your selections, click Next to continue.
