Instant Spell Check flags misspelled words with wavy red underlines as you work. In addition, you can use instant spell check on the text you are entering in Notes-style text fields (including Rich Text and Rich Text Lite fields), if the application designer has enabled in-line spell check for that field.

By default, instant spell check is on (enabled). You can disable it for all sessions, or leave it enabled, but turn it off while composing or editing a specific document. To use it for text fields, instant spell check must be enabled, and you must also manually initiate a spell check for each field. Use these steps to turn instant spell check off and on.

TaskSteps
Disable instant spell check for all sessionsOpen Spell Check preferences and remove the check from Enable Instant Spell checking.
Turn instant spell check on or off while composing or editing a specific documentIf you have enabled the Spell Check preference Enable Instant Spell checking, you can turn it off while editing or composing a document by clicking Tools > Instant Spell Check. This menu selection is not permanent, and instant spell check is enabled once again when you create or edit a new document.
Check spelling in a text fieldFor each text field you want to check, locate the cursor in the field, and then from the Tools menu, click Instant Spell Check.
