Overview

The goal of this article is to aggregate installation instructions for IBM Notes, iNotes, and Domino as it pertains to OpenSocial Component functionality. By reviewing the materials herein, an administrator should gain a better understanding of the steps needed to install the OpenSocial Component across the Notes/Domino portfolio.

IMPORTANT: The OpenSocial Component is only supported on IBM Domino servers version 9.0 and above. IBM XWork servers are not supported.

IBM Domino Social Edition 9.0 and Above

The OpenSocial Component is packaged as an additional installer that needs to be run on top of the base Domino server installer.

See this technote: What needs to be installed on the Domino server to run the OpenSocial component?external link

Domino Verification

An administrator can verify the installation of the OpenSocial Component on IBM Domino was successful by verifying that the appropriate OSGi bundles are in place. A new "social" directory should now exist in the <Domino Install Directory>/osgi.

From the server console, an administrator can execute the following command in order to see the short status of several bundles that were installed via the OpenSocial Component.
tell http osgi ss com.ibm.fiesta

If the OpenSocial bundles are installed, you would see something like this:
> tell http osgi ss com.ibm.fiesta
[183C:0002-0AA0] 02/13/2014 11:20:52 AM Framework is launched.

If the OpenSocial bundles are not installed, you would see this:

IBM Notes Social Edition 9.0 and Above

To install the OpenSocial Component for IBM Notes Social Edition, one must run the IBM Notes Social Edition installer. There is a new “OpenSocial Component” on the Custom Setup page of the installer, which is enabled by default. This component needs to be installed.

Notes Verification

One can see the status of the OpenSocial Component in Notes by going to Help -> About IBM Notes and clicking the "Component Details" button. In the resulting dialog, one should see an entry with a Component ID of "OpenSocial".

IBM iNotes Social Edition 9.0 and Above

All of the client-side OpenSocial functionality for IBM iNotes Social Edition 9.0 and above is contained within the Forms9.nsf that is installed with the Domino installer. On the server-side, the OpenSocial Component must be installed on all iNotes servers for which the OpenSocial Component functionality is to be enabled. It must also be installed to enable the "My Widgets" framework in iNotes.

iNotes Verification

See the Verification section for IBM Domino Social Edition 9.0 and above.
