Capacity Planning
When planning a new deployment that will utilize the OpenSocial Component functionality on Domino, an administrator should refer to the
IBM Domino 9.0 Social Edition and Connections 4.0 Embedded Experience performance article as a guide for planning the capacity for the servers.
An administrator should also consider the types of OpenSocial functionality that will be utilized, and based on the
Gadget rendering process, determine whether the bulk of the load will be on individual Notes clients or centralized to the Domino Server with Shindig.
Generally speaking, a single Domino Server with Shindig may be able to
support the users on several mail servers or server clusters and that should be accounted for in capacity planning.
IBM Domino Administrator Requirements
Administrators who will be performing OpenSocial Component setup and configuration should themselves have IBM Notes Social Edition version 9.0 or above installed with the OpenSocial Component as well as IBM Domino Administrator version 9.0 or above. The former will ensure that administrators can perform verification once setup is complete using their own identities. The latter will ensure that administrators have the latest APIs that are required for some of the configuration steps, such as
configuring the credential store application.
Domino Directory Requirements
In order to support the OpenSocial Component configuration as part of the
Server-centric settings setup, the Domino Directory needs to be on the 9.0 version or above of the pubnames.ntf template.
All users who will be utilizing OpenSocial Component functionality in Notes or iNotes must also have valid internet addresses in their person documents in the Domino Directory. For
more information on how internet addresses can be populated, see
Populating the Internet Address field in Person documents.
