Re: IBM Lotus Domino 8.5.1 on Amazon Web Services: A getting started guide

I've tried launching Domino 8.5.1 instances per http://www-10.lotus.com/ldd/ddwiki.nsf/dx/IBM_Lotus_Domino_8.5.1_on_Amazon_Web_Services_A_getting_started_guide in both Singapore and Virginia but, in both cases, the instance transitions directly from Pending to Terminated with "Client.InstanceInitiatedShutdown: Instance initiated shutdown". The System Log is blank in both cases.

I'm guessing that the failure of the "activation process" at https://aws-portal.amazon.com/gp/aws/user/activation/index.html?ie=UTF8&productCode=00E2F293 might be relevant. It appears to require visiting the Getting Started guide link above with ?ProductCode=00E2F293&ActivationKey=... on the end which, in turn, causes "Error 400 HTTP Web Server: Unknown Command Exception". Other comments suggest that the ? and everything after need merely be removed, implying that there is, in fact, no requirement to activate beyond completing the "Purchase" process (which completed without difficulty).

Any help appreciated.

Are these AMIs still functional? I have tried several times to run them, and they seem to start but never go into 'running' mode - just 'terminated'.

IBM Lotus Domino 8.5.1 on Amazon Web Services: A getting started guide

Administering Lotus Domino with SimpleAdmin.nsf has a misleading or incomplete URL.

Incomplete - http:///simpleAdmin.nsf

Complete- http://(the public DNS provided by the Amazon Instance)/simpleAdmin.nsf

It doesn't work with Amazon spot instances, apparently. I get "Amazon DevPay is not supported for spot instances" when I try it.

@Sean Thanks for the tip and we'll add a section (and link to Amazon discussing this) to the article. Sounds like elastic IPs need additional step to setup ReverseDNS so that SPAM filters on SMTP traffic can properly resolve them.

IBM Lotus Domino 8.5.1 on Amazon Web Services: A getting started guide

@Sean

Domino uses the NRPC port to send/receive mails so I don't think the EC2 restriction applies here. I ever tried to send mails to myself and it succeeded using the image.

Also following this guide, the domino data will be stored in an EBS volume explicitly created by yourself and will not be lost when the instance terminates.

I have found that that there are several ec2 restrictions about sending mail from instances. Do these apply to instances set up with the IBM image ?

see http://seancull.co.uk/Public/seancull.nsf/dx/sntt-creating-a-persistent-ec2-domino-instance-with-ebs-boot-volumes.htm

tks, Sean

The image must be "purchased" before it can be launched and we are still a few days away from this being available for general use. I'll post details here as soon as its ready.

I get the error "Subscription to ProductCode 00E2F293 required" when I try to launch the instance.

Did I miss a step somewhere?
