TLS in Java installed on Domino server: is it available? Does it work?

What's the state of TLS support in the JDK on the server

I'm trying to conduct a Web service **client** over TLS and it hasn't gone very well so far. That is, I'm writing Java to initiate a Web service on another server.

Are there special switches to throw to get it working? What's the highest level of TLS I can pull off as a client, from a Domino server?

Second question -- what if I still have to conduct SSLV3 requests to yet another server -- can I make the request explicitly for SSLV3 and have it go through?

These aren't questions specific to XPages.  You'll probably have better luck on the 9.0 forum.
