How to send alerts for JVM Dump

Is it possible to monitor JVM Memory Dumps/Errors and send an alert to Domino administrators whenever they occur on a server. What are the specific steps to set it up?

I am a developer using an enterprise server to deploy XPages web apps. These server are used to deploy apps created by, perhaps, hundreds of developers So it is nearly impossible to track down where the memory leaks are coming from. We have managed to get the "dumps" down to about once a week. Presently, when they occur, one of my users tells me they are getting Error 500 messages on one of my apps and I submit a request to get the server admins to restart the HTTP Task or Domino Server. This takes about 3-4 hours, but it may have been 2-3 days since the error occurred and the users begin to call me.

I have no Administrator access and the admins are somewhat uncooperative in this matter. The more detail I can provide the better.

Java Agent to test HTTP Request

Since you probably don't have access to the server's filesystem you could use Apache HTTPClient to test the connection to an "echo" page and look for the Response code.  If it is not 200 then it could send you an email.   It will only give you a brief head start on the users but it could be an option.

OpenNTF

Install the XPages Log Reader App from OpenNTF.org.  It's invaluable.  No automatic alerts built in...  maybe that can be added as it's opensource..

It's a simple .NSF - no special access is needed so hopefully you can get it installed.  We have it on our servers.  Again - Invaluable!

Good Luck

Dave
