Developer Client frequently goes for a long walk down Memory Lane then CRASHES

I am running Windows 7 Pro and 8.5.3 FP3 and frequently my Developer client just goes off into "Never Never Land" with the (Not Responding) message in the header bar and the little roundy round arrow displaying. It starts generally by a long pause after every letter typed - which is an indication to save and get out. This probable happens every 1/2 hour to 1 hour. and the only solution is to shut everything down and restart windows and Notes. When the developer Crashes it takes the Notes Client with it. This seems to only happen when I am working in XPages design. Have recently worked for several hours in a non-Xpages DB in Designer with no problem. I went so far as to uninstall Notes did a fresh install hoping that might fix the problem, but no luck. Everything is running locally, the DB is on the the same machine as the Developer is run from. When it goes on it's trip there is no hard disk activity so it would appear that it is getting into some sort of infinite memory loop.

If I had any other program do this sort of thing I would have chucked it a long time ago.

Any idea how to resolve this problem, anyone else experienced this?

Apply the settings from the tech doc and that will go a LONG way to ease your problems.

Also as you are working during the day get in the habit of "closing" applications you are working on to free that memory back up for designer.

In notes 9 this can be done from the context menu right clicking on the application.  In 8.5.3 this can be done from the Package Explorer View by right clicking on the application title and choosing "close project"

You can also close all other projects but the one you have selected to close many projects at one time.

Thanks that seems to have fixed it. Been working for a couple hours with no CRASHES! Yahoo!

The question is why would the install set sure unrealistic settings?   The install knows how much memory is available so why not just set reasonable defaults?

Anyway, Thanks.

Notes Client / Designer is 32 bit code even if it's running on an 64 bit O/S.

So pretty much limited to 2 gig max memory.

If you have 8 gig then setting to 1 gig heap should keep things running smoothly.

that's what mine is set to.

Is it always the same application you are working on?  Are you remembering to "close" projects / applications you no longer need open?

Pretty much just the one application at the moment. I'm about to instal 9.0 so will see if that fixes things.

Is the May 17th Extension Library on OpenNTF for 9.0?

 Bill,

Designer 9 basically has the Ext. Library built in.  Not the experiment stuff like JDBC, but most of the other main controls.  There is an Ext. Library specific to 9.0 now. You would want to install that one.

Try cleaning up your logs

I have seen this types of problems with clients with alot of log files.

try to install my tool Designer Memory auto apply the memory settings. and the Client killer to clean up log files.

http://www.xpagedeveloper.com and the menu "software download"

If that doesn't work make sure that you do a total reinstall when you install Notes 9
