notes2.exe crashing issues!

 Hello!

I should preface this by mentioning that I have an older work computer.  It's a Windows XP, SP3, with 3GBs of RAM.  I have 8.5.3, FP3, UP1, and I spend each and every day programming in XPages.  I also have a Windows 7 computer with 8GB RAM at home, which (obviously!) works much better.
I've followed these suggestions about the jvm.properties, turning off Build Automatically and fixing anti-virus settings, which helped greatly.  Before those changes, my notes2.exe process would go over 1GB in under an hour.  Now, the same process goes over 1GB after 2-3 hours, at which point, I shut down Notes, restart and go again for another 2-3 hours.  On my home laptop, I can go 6-7 hours before having to restart.
When the notes2 process goes over 1GB, the drag and drop doesn't work anymore, opening any design element is extremely slow, and copying and pasting stops to work.  Even typing in the source code is extremely slow.

Other than the obvious solution of getting a new computer (this summer, methinks), any other suggestions?  In your experience, is this normal behavior?

Thanks, in advance!

Re: notes2.exe crashing issues!
 Steve,

Not sure what to tell you here.  I have a mac and have several vm's that I use...  day job..  notesin9..  designer 9 beta etc...  I don't look at memory usage at all because typically my designer just doesn't crash.  I might have a couple vm's open at the same time.  So I'm sorry your having a problem - maybe a reinstall is in order?  Maybe a PMR as well.  Not sure.

The biggest performance issue I've had with designer is in mobile controls...  I was working on an app and typing would SLOW TO A CRAWL.  I might hit a key and 10 seconds later it would show up.  It was an XPage with many Custom controls on it.  I had to do the design thing so desginer would render that instead of trying to render the actual controls.  That helped immensely for that.

good luck!

Re: notes2.exe crashing issues!
 Thanks!

I've reinstalled 8.5.3 a few times, but it hasn't seem to have improved anything.  The big application I'm working on has a LONG XPage that has a lot of different things in it.  It's usually slow to open, at the best of times, so this could be why you find opening a big XPage slow, too.  I'm not sure if there's a recommended limit, but I can ask some IBM people about it.

I know Notes 9 comes out next month, and is supposed to have some XPage improvements.  8.5.4 is supposed to come out in the spring, and perhaps more importantly, I should get a new work computer in the spring, too!  I get the feeling that a Windows 7, 8GB RAM computer will serve me better than my old clunker is now.

Take care!
