Using Excel Spreadsheet as a Data Source

Has anyone used XPages with an Excel spreadsheet for pulling data values? Feasibility of this? Easier to just import the data into a Notes view?
 
This particular spreadsheet has around 1500 entries with 20 columns of info.

As xPages able to call Server side Lotusscript agent, we are now using agent to update Excel hundreds rows data.
 
1500 rows and 20 cols updating - I think it takes few seconds.
