How to update XULRunner for XPinC

Hi,

I was disappointed to see that the XULRunner version for XPinc in ND9 is still 1.9.2.10. I think this corresponds to about Firefox 3.6. For my XPinC application, I was hoping to make use of the HTML5 feature getUserMedia which is supported starting in Firefox 17. So I think I need to update the XULRunner plugin to version 17 or above. Has anyone done this?

This is my progress so far:

1.) I have found the XULRunner plugins (2 of them): <notes_root_install_dir>\framework\rcp\eclipse\plugins\com.ibm.rcp.xulrunner.runtime....

2.) I have the newest stable XULRunner runtime (version 22) from http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/xulrunner/releases/

3.) I have tried replacing the xulrunner folder in the plugin with the xulrunner folder in the latest release. I have also tried merging those folders as there is not a one to one file replacement. This results in either the client crashing before it loads (no error message) or an error message regarding xul.dll.

I think I need to take the new runtime and convert it into an eclipse plugin, but this is where I am stumped. I would love to hear that someone already has created this plugin (for xulrunner 17 or above) or could give instructions how to do it.

Thanks,

Jen

Don't think you can

Jen,

I think it's safe to say we're all disappointed at how old Xul runner is. As well as the Eclipse version for designer in general.  I'm pretty sure IBM does know of this - but I've no idea what any plan, if any, there is.

Regarding your desire to upgrade XUL in the client.  There's a great blog post out today from Sven with some information on that.  Sadly it does not look promising.

The comment from Karsten is probably the most important piece.

Good to know

Thanks David. That was not the answer I was hoping for, but I am glad to know I can abandon this track for now.
