Partial Refresh not Working after Validation fails

There is an XPage with some fields. The fields have some validations. When the user clicks on Save, the validation fails if any required field is not having a value. This is fine. But after the validation fails and user selects some value in Combo-box, there is some partial refresh that should happen. So if the Validation fails, the partial refresh is not working. So please let me know how to resolve it. I want that the Partial Refresh should work even after the Validation error has occurred.

Could you put together a simple page with just that code ...

on it then post the code here. Sometimes when I do that it the example works because it is something else on the page that is interfering with the process. However, if the simple example fails then the code would be a great help in finding the cause.
