xPages Developer Looking for Similar Environment

I am very interested in exploring a different environment/language. I started with traditional Notes client apps, and have been using xPages for a number of years. What would you recommend to someone like myself who could build on his existing xPages skills exploring other languages and environments. I would like to hear of a full stack of products, the application server, database server/dbtype, front end framework, etc. Open source is preferred.

I'd be interested in hearing of alternatives as well. Always good to know what else is out there.

I don't know of any alternatives that would encompass all of xpages/Domino. So I imagine a solution would need to be several products lumped together sort of like LAMP.

If you are looking for open source

then you would need to explore open source JEE/JSP/JSF platforms like glassfish --> https://glassfish.java.net

The development environment for that is pure JEE Eclipse.

Let's you see how servlets/jsp/jsf works in a non-XPage non-Domino environment.
