I followed the instructions from Niklas Heidloff's blog posts about setting up source control Setting up Source Control for NSFs and XPages in Domino 8.5.3 and Using Subversive SVN in Domino Designer 8.5.3 for XPages Development but I can seem to get it to work.  Every thing seem s to go ok with installing the plug ins but I can't ever get the team menu.
Has any one got this working in 8.5.3 if so what did you do to make it work?

no problem here, I even managed to connect to Git repo thanks to http://www.openntf.org/internal/home.nsf/project.xsp?action=openDocument&documentId=D1668ED7018AA0858625786300624B6F
 
I installed the Egit Plugin and restarted Notes. Then right-click on the project in Designer, select Team Development -> Set up source control for this application
And then in Navigator (Window - Show Eclipse View - Navigator) right click on newly created on-disk project , Team -> Commit

I installed 8.5.3 on a second machine and still can't get it to work...
 
When I right click on the application I don't see the Team Development menu item...  I must be missing something
 
on the second machine I tried to use git from http://www.openntf.org/internal/home.nsf/project.xsp?action=openDocument&documentId=D1668ED7018AA0858625786300624B6F  still no success...

Mine worked perfectly.  Do you see the SVN Repositories Perspective?

Yeah I can see the perspective I just don't see the team menu when I right click on the application in the regular designer prospective...

I'm not sure what the problem was... I did an uninstall/reinstall and it seems to be working...

Today I had a similar problem with another menu option I was missing and think I know what your problem was:
 
If you open Designer and click on Window -> Customize perspective you can customize what menu options are shown, including the icons in the toolbar. Some of the options also have an effect on the right-click menu of applications.
 
The option that you needed (and that for some reason probably was unchecked in your case) is called "Domino Designer Team Development".
