Unable to preview locally.

I am participating in a study group using the new Mastering Xpages book.

I downloaded 8.5.2 from the IBM site and configured it according to the directions.

I am working my way through the book and I am able to preview my work on the Notes Client, but when I try to preview on the browser, I get "HTTP 404, Page not found" error.

I have tried my contact database from the client, using the preview on browser option and in design.

I have been unsuccessful launching a local web server on any design elements.

I am wondering if anyone has any insight on what I have done wrong and can help me rectify the situation.

Thanks so much in advance for any help offered.

Sincerely,

Betsy Thiede

Re: Unable to preview locally.
I would guess that port 80 is being used by something, preventing the client from launching the local web server. Try doing a netstat - a | more at a command prompt and see if port 80 is in use. Skype is a frequent offender.  Its was announced at LS that in 8.5.3 you'll be able to set the port in the Notes client to something other than port 80 to avoid these conflicts. (BETA Disclaimer: 8.5.3 is beta code, and the features discussed may not be in the final shipped product, etc, etc) ... In the meantime try to isolate what uses port 80 and shut it down while doing your preview.

Thank you so much. I will try that. And you are correct, I have skype installed on that computer as that is the method our study group has decided to communicate with each other.

I believe this has been fixed in 853 - there will be a preference where you will be able to set the web preview port! :-)

In Application properties you will see a tab as Xpages,in the errors and timeouts section check the box named "Dispaly default error page"now when you try to preview you will get error which you can understand and correct accordingly.
