How to display count of docs per categorized column?

I am using a viewpanel in an Xpage to display a categorized view. In my categorized columns, I use the formula @DocDescendants to display the number of docs under each category. When I display the view in an xpage, the count is coming up as jibberish. Any ideas how I might achieve the same thing in an view panel column. I know that you can compute a view column value under the data section so I thought maybe that is where I would start. Any ideas of what JS I would use and if this is the right way of going about this? Thanks!

You might try to use Total instead. i.e in the first column( before the categorized column), set a column value of 1 and set the column to show total, the hide details row does however not seem to work on web.

Found solution
Thomas, Thanks for your reply - I found a solution from Steve Castledine that expanded on your suggestion and worked great.

I found this link in the Domino Xpages Wiki http://xpageswiki.com/web/youatnotes/wiki-xpages.nsf/dx/Work_with_views#Display+column+sums

Thanks Steve for this blog post. It was very clear and worked great.
