opening xPage in Notes 9 client doesn't work

We have an xPages application that we are running in the Notes client (long story).  In Notes 8.5.3, it opens perfectly. You can't set a database to open an xPage in the Notes 9 Basic client, it will open the default view instead.  So, I have a link on a form that resolves to:

notes://server/path/database.nsf/home.xsp?openxpage

In Notes 853, this works perfectly.  In Notes 9, the link does absolutely nothing.
