Unfortunately, as you say, dojoType is not available on the Link control. But Matt White and Tim Clark showed a good example of how to use the Dojo lightbox control in a couple of sessions they've done at LUGs and Lotuspheres. Follow this link to the presentations on Matt White's blog http://mattwhite.me/presentations/ . XPages Blast and XPages 101 both have examples using the lightbox.

You can also you xp:text with dojoType, and then use the tagName attribute to set the tag to "a" to create a link ... then set your href through the use of a dojo attribute...
