Has XPages Extension Library replaced XPages Mobile Controls?

I currently have the extlib installed on my machine and observe a number of mobile controls that are available. Are these the same controls as those found in the XPages Mobile Controls project (I've never installed it)? I also see that Niklas Heidloff is an author in both projects...

OpenNTF states that Mobile Controls is for release 8.5.1, last updated 05/2011, whereas the XPages Extension Library has continued to evolve and is much more recent.

It's my understanding that the mobile controls project is much more recent then the extension library. Mobile controls use Dojo 1.6 for example as it's embedded in the NSF itself.
