Sounds like you had too many windows open at the time and the focus of your cursor was in the other application and not Sametime. If the problem was the other way round ie you were in your other application typing, someone sent you an IM and you entered what was supposed to be in the other application in Sametime instead I can understand that as Sametime can steal focus. Since you're issue is the other way round then I would look at the other application and see how that interacts.

TBH I can't see how any one would be able to code around mistakes such as this as this is a mistake made by you, not the application. You entered the text and you pressed save. You're working around the problem by not logging onto Sametime.
