If you use Sametime 9 and Domino 9 then you must install WebSphere and DB2.

If you install Sametime 8.5.2.1 and Domino 8.5.x then you only need Domino and Sametime.

Version 9 forces you to use WebSphere which runs the Sametime system Console which needs DB2 to store policy data. You could run this all on the one server but you will need to read around the installation of DB2 and WebSphere. There are many good documents available like "zero to hero." Unfortunately there's too much to explain here but you can get your hands on the information.

As the Community server is a 32bit application you must install on Domino 32bit.
