It's worth adding to that list you can install it this way (although IBM may not support it) but you also won't be able to easily administer policies. You can do it manually using the xml files but if you intend to use any complexity then you may have your work cut out.

If you only want awareness in Notes then why go to Sametime 9.0.1?
