My contact is on Cisco Jabber. He can see my status (online, away, etc.), but I cannot see his status. The nickname just shows up in gray.

He can send me messages. I cannot send to him ("would you like to send an email instead?").

Should I be able to see the Jabber user's status? If not, why not? Is there a way to configure Sametime so that I can initiate the conversation?
