DBMT and archived transaction logging

In an environment where archived transaction logging is used for backup it is important to know when a copy style compact runs on the databases because after that a full backup has to be done. Can I achieve this using DBMT?

Can the compact style be configured, so I could run a "-b" Monday through Friday and "-c" on the weekend?

yes, you can use a program doc w/ a stoptime or timelimit
Using a program doc, you can configure dbmt to run only on Saturday & Sunday with the stoptime parameter or the timelimit parameter to get them to terminate. Then you can do the backups. During rest of the week you can schedule dbmt w/ -compactThreads 0 so that the updall stuff & FTI stuff happens normally.

Run time

The examples in your presentation indicate DBMT could be run every night and will stop itself. The administration help's example tells admins to run it on server start. Wouldn't this run only once?

using the -range option
and loading dbmt at server startup causes dbmt to run during the time period specified. It will sleep once the stop time is reached (the compacts will that is, the updalls will complete). With the -timeLimit or -stoptime options it will only run once, but the range option causes it to remain resident and do it's think in the window specified.

-range option is not working
-compactThreads 8 -updallThreads 8 -range 2:00AM 7:00AM -compactNdays 5 -force 1

The range option did not work the the compact was running even after 7:00 a.m

Clarification on some command line options
The IBM documentation says that the values for the -compactThreads and -updallThreads command line options should be based on the number of disks backing the data directory.  That doesn't sound right.

Is it referring to the physical drives of a RAID array or the number of Disk Volumes?

Should it not be based on available CPU threads?

Thanks

I would say it should factor in both disk and cpu.
But probably more focus on disk - factoring in rotational speed and number of physical drives (to the extent that can be determined). Having a quad or dual-quad core system doesn't mean that the customer may have adequate disk to go along with that in running multiple compact operations. And along those lines, the server may have a nice disk backend but not have enough CPU threads available. So the customer should really be concerned with both aspects, among others...
