Routing some messages to Office 365 mail

Hi all,

Unfortunately, we are planning on moving off of Domino mail (just too many on-going problems).  As part of the planning/implementing, would like to set up our admins on Office 365 first before moving the users over (about 40 users).

Is there a way to set up something in the router (or wherever) so that for just these few users that their mail gets forwarded to Office 365 instead of a local mailbox?  Not even sure what is the "process" here or I could look in help to see how to set this up.  Note that the mx records will still point to our current domain and that the domain under the Office 365 will use the same domain name.  So no mx record will point directly to Office 365 until we do the final cutover.

Also, if there is a better way to do this (perhaps a messaging agent in the cloud first?), I am open to other solutions.

Thanks.

There's a forwarding address on the Person doc.

You can forward email to another address. The field is prominently displayed in the Person doc.

I just spent 50 minutes (yes, nearly an hour) running a rule in Outlook, on a relatively small number of documents (<10,000). Exchange/Outlook performance suffers after you get a significant number of emails (>40,000).

Every couple of weeks I discover a pile of emails in my Outbox that Outlook hasn't been able to route to Exchange.

Plus every couple of weeks Exchange disappears on us.

So have fun in Outlook!

If you have questions, I'm sure Microsoft can set you straight.

Wouldn't that just loop?

Hi,

Thanks for responding....wouldn't your suggestion just not loop back to the same server eventually?  i.e. if I mail coming in to me (e.g. agostick@mydomain.com), comes in and finds my person's record in Domino and it has a forwarding address of agostick@mydomain.com but somehow this is the microsoft online Office 365, it would again look up our mx record and just come back to Domino?

Or maybe I need to forward to the alternate email that Office 365 assigns to each person (e.g. agostick@mydomain.onmicrosoft.com)?

Maybe I just answered my own question....

I realize though that this will keep a copy of each email in both my Domino mail file and also another on Microsoft.

Is there a better way to do this?

BTW, hopefully O365 is better than on-prem Exchange!

Check with Office 365 support

I believe that there is a 'standard' routing domain that can be used during the migration process, that allows you to forward your notes mail (using the 'forwarding address' field on your Person document)  to Outlook 365.

It sounds as is both clients, then, can be set up with the user's primary internet address the same - mail will come in thru Notes & route to Office365 via this alias. Once the migration is complete, you'd then change your MX records to point to Office365.
