Can't do anything with a message in a folder

I have some messages sitting in a folder that I wish to forward to another user, however, the only options I have when I open the email are "Restore" and "Deliver Sender's mail to Junk..." Restore does nothing, and I don't really want these messages to sit in the Junk folder, so I thought I'd drag it to my Inbox, to see what happens. When I try this, I get an error box pop up with the following message: "You cannot drag and drop out of Trash with Soft Deletes enabled. Please use Restore instead."

What, if anything, have I done, and how should I go about fixing it??

Trash
Sounds to me like you are in the Trash folder.  Restore will put them back where they came from (ie. if they were deleted from the Inbox they will go back to the Inbox).  After Restore, look for the documents in the All Documents view

Not in the Trash

They are definitely not in the Trash folder. I can see the messages in the All Documents view, and it indicates the folder that the message is in  [in this case, a folder called "MAC forms"]. It behalves like it's in Trash folder, displaying a Restore button when you open the message... but the button does not do a thing. The document remains in the folder and will not allow me to move it. I can copy the message to another view, but I end up with multiple copies and if I delete one, they are all deleted. Incidentally, at that point I can go to the Trash folder and Restore that message, and as you note, it does indeed put the message back in the folders it was in. But, then I'm back to square-one with the problem. Annoying...

Perhaps the design of the folder is the $Trash design

If a folder has its design set to inherit from the $Trash folder's design, then you would see this error. You can check the design by clicking on Actions > Folder > Upgrade Folder Design, and then select Manual Upgrade. If the design is shown as $Trash, then select it, and upgrade using the Inbox design.

Folder designing missing...

Jay - I love it when the instructions in the Help File don't match what the program has :)

The options I see in my program are: Actions > Folder Options > Rename.../Design.../Move.../Remove Folder

There is no "Upgrade Folder Design" option! If I click on Actions > Folder Options > Design..., it starts the Domino Designer, at which point, I'm kinda lost. I've been poking around, looking at the options, but have yet to find what you have described. I'll keep looking, though, but if you have any other suggestions, I'm all ears!

It does appear to be a design issue i.e the folder has the Trash folder design . To fix it you need to upgrade the folder design , it will actually be a quick fix.

Click on any folder except your folder with the issue . ( because your folder has a Trash design you won't see the Folder option in the Action menu list )
From the top menu bar select Actions
Then Folder and Upgrade Folder Design.

On the dialog box the shows , click  Manually Upgrade folder design .
It will scan all your folders and present you with a list .
Click on your problem folder from the list .
Then below that click the design type as" Inbox" and OK

Bingo!

Thanks Ronan, I was missing that one little part about *not* clicking on the problem folder! Darn those dynamic menu items! [really, they should leave all the options there, and grey-out ones that are not applicable or usable... there's probably a setting somewhere for that.... ha!]

In any case, I was able to fix the folder design and now all the messages in the folder can be forwarded again. Thanks for the help, everyone!
