Domino Upgrade Issue

Hi

I've seen a new issue arise today during an upgrade from Domino 7 to Domino 9.0

The original domain comprises of 3 Domino 7 servers running on Linux

Into this domain I have introduced 3 new Domino 9 servers running on Windows.

Domino directory and system dbs have been upgraded to 9, Reservations has been upgraded and moved to 9 all with no issues.

The problem has arisen with one of the pilot user mail files, [The source replica of the sample mail file is 1.2Gb in size] when taken forward onto Domino 9, Steps to reproduce

1. Take replica of mail file from older Domino 7 Linux server onto Domino 9 Windows server - new replica is 800Mb in size and has ods 51

2. Issue command LOAD COMPACT <mailfile>.nsf -c -ZU - to enable LZ1 Compression of attachments - resultant db reduced in size to 730Mb

3. Issue command LOAD COMPACT <mailfile>.nsf -c -DAOS ON - To link the mail file to DAOS - resultant db reduced further in size to 444Mb

Sometime afterwards the pilot user noticed that new emails were not being delivered and furthermore that some folders were now empty

Immediate thought was that a 2nd inbox had been created, we've all seen that before right, and indeed that was the case, but additionally some [not all] folders had been duplicated. They were easy to spot as they were signed by the new replica server name. I was able to rename each one appending a '2' and then new this empty folder along with the populated original both appeared in the client navigator and could be removed by the user.

With the 2nd inbox I simply renamed that too, to ($nbox2) then previewed it in Notes whereupon I could drag the pesky recent new email into the original inbox and then back in designer remove the newly created now empty inbox.

Hope someone has some thoughts on the reason for this, as I need to work out why it happens and if it is likely to happen again with other 'live' users and if possible how to stop it happening altogether

The design task is not running, in fact it is prevented from doing so

Oh and after doing all this, some messages are still arriving in the All docs and not the $Inbox view

Thanks in advance

Domino Upgrade Issue - RESOLVED

I have today traced the duplicate document creation to the use of the CLUSTER_ADMIN_ON function. With this enabled I have hitherto used the command

CL COPY <SourceServer>!!<dbpath\file.nsf> <TargetServer>!!<dbpath\file.nsf> REPLICA

To make replica databases from old to new servers. It seems that this process breaks the document unid table on Domino 9

If I make replicas using the Admin client options for File --> Replication --> New Replica then all is well with the world and the document count stays consistent

Strongly suggest you set the parameter CLUSTER_ADMIN_ON=0 in your server(s) NOTES.INI file

Stress that this is so far limited testing, but so far so good
