D9 + N8.53 = Soft deletions not working?

Hi there, after upgrading our servers to D9.0, soft deletion in all users mailfiles stopped working.

Clients still on  Notes 8.53 and mailfile design is Notes8.
We can do some commands to empty their Trash, but once the mails are gone, new ones will pile up again.

On my own mailfile which is Notes9 I dont see that problem.

So, can anyone explain why this is happening?
In the past we´ve been "in between releases" several times, eg. D8.5 and Notes 7.3, and we had no such problems.

fixed in 9.01
if you open a pmr & ask for a hf for spr JPAI98CQ6D, should take care of the issue

Soft Deletions not purging

For some users, Soft Deletions purge properly.  For other users, Soft Deletions do not purge at all.  Two users can have the same 8.5.x client and the same mail template and the same policy, yet one user has Soft Deletions in Trash going back months.  Users with a 9 client have a 9 mail template and Soft Deletions seem to work fine.  What is frustrating is that there is not much information as to what process actually is doing the purging. So, why is the process failing for some and working for others?

Domino Servers: 9.0.1 FP3

Notes clients: 8.5.x and 9.0.1

Mail templates: 8.5.2, 8.5.3, 9 - all customized

Soft Deletions always enabled and hours set to 48 hours

In general, soft deletions are hard deleted with the database is opened. This happens at most every hour, with the last time recorded in the database.

I'm not aware of any outstanding bugs with how this works, and it looks like your pure 9+ configuration (client, template, server) is working fine. Understanding that some 8.5.x users (client + template) are working, can you upgrade the problem users to the 9+ configuration and see if the issue persists?

One possibility is if a user has ever set the system time ahead, then this time could have been set forward as well, in which case the logic that determines if it is time to expire the soft deletions won't fire until an hour after whatever time the user set on the system.

If nothing above helps, DEBUG_NSF_SOFT_DELETES=1 can help collect additional information on why this isn't working. I'd recommend opening a PMR in that case so Support can guide you through its use.
