Server is at 9.0.1 FP8.  So are the users, who are all operating from a local replica.  Replication settings are enforced by policy so they always replicate on a schedule.  Many users will notice they are not getting any new mail, so they call the help desk.  The techs connect to the user's PC, open the replicator page and find the message "This database is currently in use by another person or process, and cannot be accessed at this time".  I assume the users are leaving their PC on overnight, and this message happens while the mail file is being compacted on the server.  Apparently the user's replicator cannot recover and fails to reconnect with the server replica even after the compact has been completed.  Anyone have any thoughts on this issue?

Mail cluster or single server? Linux or Windows?

I've seen a number of reports that the cluster replicator has problems like this.

In the past though, I've often run into the local database being locked by a backup or antivirus application.

That is, someone leaves on their machine the entire night, and their own antivirus pops up, locks the file, and the Notes *client* has to be restarted.

Does the problem extend to applications other than their mail files?

Do your users replicate other apps on the server (the Domino Directory, for example)? If so, does the replicator page also indicate problems with replicating the other server-based apps?  Does the Domino console on the server the user is accessing show similar errors? Is the mail file transactionally logged, and are there transaction log errors displayed on the console for this mail file?
