JVM Patch error - Traveler ?

  • Category: Install
  • Platform: Windows
  • Release: 9.0.1
  • Role:
  • Tags: JVM Patch

I have 5 x 9.0.1 Domino servers running in our test area on Win2012 VMs

3 x 9.0.1FP3HF42

2 x 9.0.1FP3

I have just tried to apply the latest JVM Patch (06/03/15) and it it stalled just fine for 4 of the 5.

For the failed one it processed the Patch and then at the end gave error reason code 1,

and the following in the jvmpatcher.log

Patching tree diff from ".\jvm" to ".\jvm_dst" using diff file ".\patch.diff"...
    You are attempting to patch:
      pwa6460sr16-20140418_01(SR16))
With a patch that is valid for:
      src1 pwa6460sr16fp2ifix-20141203_01(SR16 FP2+IV66900))
    Tree diff file patch failed.

The patch that failed was on a server which had once been 8.5.3 FP6, but this was uninstalled and 9.0.1FP3HF42 installed over the old data.  It also had Traveler 9.0.1IF7 installed, but this is now removed from the Notes.ini, so not active but installed.

Could this be the JVM installed with Traveler ?

Any ideas how to get theJVM patch to install ??

Thanks in advance for any ideas on this.

Ian

More JVM Confusion

More JVM Confusion !

I have been checking the JVMs (sh jvm) that did report successful updates and I am getting different results from the 2 Servers with 9.0.1FP3 installed.

These servers were built on the same day from the same installation files and are both at the same level of Domino, but report different results for their JVM releases ???

Both these Servers reported successful installation of the latest JVM Patch (6 March 2015 on Fix Central) and have jvmpatcher logs which report success and a list of file names.

Can anyone advise what is going on ?

9.0.1 Fix Pack 3 contains JVM 1.6 SR16 FP2.
9.0.1 Fix Pack 3 contains JVM 1.6 SR16 FP2.  You may want to try running the standalone JVM installer again on the server that was not upgraded.  If there a Notes client installed on the server, the standalone JVM installer will upgrade the client JVM and not the Domino JVM.

JVM Patch error - Traveler - work around

For this server that would not install the Patch - I found a work around the problem from old 2009 JVM reported issues.

I stopped one of the 'upgraded' servers with the correct JVM installed and copied the whole JVM Folder from Domino.

I stopped the 'problem' sever and renamed the JVM Folder, then copied the good JVM folder in place.

I ran the installer again and it reported a successful install this time.

Both servers running fine with the correct JVM installed now.

Will look at doing the same for the 'confused' Server too.

Hope this helps someone.

More JVM Confusion - work around - fix

For the confused server reporting JVM (SR16 FP2)

I decided to install Hot Fix 42 over the Fix Pack 3, then install the JVM Patch again.

This worked and this Server is now reporting the correct JVM (SR16 FP3) release.

Just have to see what happens to the Fix Pack 3 Server already reporting JVM (SR16 FP3) when I apply HF 42 to it.

JVM Patch error

I have also been trying to install the JVMPatch_SR16FP3_W32_901.3_ClientServer  patch with no success.

Patching tree diff from ".\jvm" to ".\jvm_dst" using diff file ".\patch.diff"...
    You are attempting to patch:

    Tree diff file patch failed.

I tried applying to 9.0.1FP3 and FP3 with HF75 and HF239.  I get the same error no matter the version.  It is a Win2008r2 server using the 32bit version.  A sh jvm shows:

[13A0:0002-1A98] 03/30/2015 01:52:04 PM  Java runtime version: pwi3260sr16-20140418_01 (SR16)

sh server shows:

[17AC:0006-0FEC] IBM Domino (r) Server (Release 9.0.1FP3 HF75 for Windows/32) 03/30/2015 01:52:34 PM

I do have the client and console installed on the server as well and have not installed the JVM separately.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

JVM Patch error - Still

Thanks Howard, but that didn't work.  The installer is finding the correct directory, it just expects a different version to be there then the one I have.  I'm still getting this in the log:

Patching tree diff from ".\jvm" to ".\jvm_dst" using diff file ".\patch.diff"...
    You are attempting to patch:
      pwi3260sr16-20140418_01(SR16))

    Tree diff file patch failed.

The other suggestion I saw
When all else failed the suggestion I saw was to reinstall 9.0.1 completely (over your existing install), then the Fix Pack 3 and then the JVM upgrade.
