Error message when trying to create Notebook

  • Category: Notes Client
  • Platform: Windows
  • Release: 9.0.1
  • Role: End User
  • Tags: notebook,create,error

When my users hit the Notebook link under Quick Links on the Discover page, they receive an error saying that notebook.nsf does not exist.

When I did this the first time, Notes asked me if I wanted to create the Notebook. But my users does not get this question.

Any tips?

Notebook

Do any of your users get the option to create a new Notebook if none exists?

This is is a hardcoded button, and should work if the product is installed properly.  I would look at trying to re-install the users Notes and see if that corrects the issue.

Thinking out loud

I wonder if there is a notes.ini or profile doc in bookmark that asked the user and they replied no.   Is it just one user?  If so just create the db for them or send them a button that would do that.

Just checked in debugger.   There is a profile doc called "HPSettings"  .  The field name is Jdb and SetupScreen.  Remove the field /or doc/or rename bookmark.naf and they will get prompted to recreate the db.

You can try ...

I believe what you are reporting is that when the user clicks on the quick link for Notebook from the Discover Page, they witness a dialog warning "Database Notebook cannot be found" and the option of entering the location for that file.

This result can easily be reproduced in the following fashion:

- a Notebook application or file (nsf) can be geneated in two ways (by default is saved in the local Notes\Data folder):

(1) using the quick link or icon from the Discover Page

(2) from the Notes Workspace HOME page, use File/Application/New/ , select the Notebook template and name the application Notebook.nsf

 - by using the link, this will update the local Bookmark database to point to the generated file (location)

- if a user happens to move, rename or delete the local Notebook.nsf file, a subsequent attempt to click on this quick link will result in the dialog warning above

A simple workaround you can try to resolve this dialog warning is to either use the second means above to maually generate that same file and place it within the local Notes\Data directory for the Cient to access, or find whether the file may have been moved outside of this directory and move it back to Notes\Data folder.  You may want to restart the Notes Client after this.
