To answer your first question --> I see that nlnotes is not longer part of the install for Domino server. I get it, it was a security risk. Ans: I am assuming you are running a 64 Bit Version of Domino and not a 32 Bit Version of Domino given the above statement. We actually still ship nlnotes with 32 Bit Domino products and confirmed with my 9.0.1 FP3 installation this morning. However Domino 64-Bit has never had a nlnotes client because we do not have 64 Bit Version of the Lotus Notes Client.. Technote --> http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg21679908 You go on to mention --> I work on some specialized stuff on a couple of mostly isolated domino servers that while the server is running I can open a few databases at the same time ad run some agents against some specially marked documents very very quickly, There are more reasons it is a benefit for me and a few reasons are less risk to the overall production environment because the server is isolated. Is there a reason why a Notes/Admin Client cannot be installed in the same Network as this server to complete the necessary work? Often times have customers ask me what my thoughts are with running the lite client on a Domino Server and I created this technote years back: Lotus Software Knowledge Base Document Title: Launching NLNOTES.EXE on the Domino Server sometimes results in a Hang or a Crash and this is not recommended to do. Doc #: 1421059 URL: http://www.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg21421059 Even with the Lotus Notes (Nlnotes) on a server it is not recommended to run it while the server is up as it writes to the same log.nsf, uses the same Names.nsf and all the databases on the server locally. If the client was to crash/hang then the entire server would hang as well and cause an outage. If the nlnotes were to crash so would the server. This is the same for installing a Lotus Notes Client in a separate directory. Can it be done yes, however a crash of the client can lead to the Domino Server crashing/hanging and is only suggested for testing and not used in production. Also to note we do not support the Lotus Notes Client installation on a Server Version OS either.
