Vanishing response documents in views

We are using a lot of Notes applications with a hierarchy of response documents. Since several months there is a big problem:
After running several agents, that create or modify these response documents, a certain amount of the responses disappear from views.
It happens not always, but very often especially when the agent affects 30 or more responses. The responses are created correctly by the agent,
because after Shift+F9 (view rebuild) the resonses appear in the view again.
This effect takes place in different applications with different agents.
We cannot grant all users the privileges to rebuild views in Notes databases and the normal incremental view refresh should behave as expected.

It might be coincidence, but the problem began in the time, when we moved our clients to version 9.0.1. (from 6.5.4). But I think, a view index problem
resides on the server, and this is and was 8.5.3.

Does anybody else experienced this problem and knows any solution?

Thanks

Are you using MAX_PERMUTE_RECURSE= on your Domino Server?
Actually I'm told in 8.5.3FP6 and 9.0.1 a default value for MAX_PERMUTE_RECURSE= was added so you don't necessarily have to have it set in your notes.ini just need to be running one of those builds on your server.

In any case, could be this known regression

SPR RMAS9GRS5Q:  MAX_PERMUTE_RECURSE causes responses to be missing from view index

which is fixed in Release 9.0.1FP1
.. You would have to call IBM Support for a HotFix if running 8.5.3FP6

This seems to be the solution
Thanks very much for that answer. I set the notes.ini variable MAX_PERMUTE_RECURSE=100000, restarted the server (8.5.3FP6), and as far as I can recognise, no response document vanishes anymore.
