Domino server messages not coming to the server console

One day in April, all Domino server messages stopped appearing on the Server console or in log.nsf. I re-installed Domino 9.0.1 FP3 IF3 and

rebooted several times. The initializing messages (eg: http started, database server started, etc) no longer appear. If you type a command

in the console the response does come back but messages like session open/close, mail being transferred, printing, etc. are gone from the console.

If I put DEBUG_OUTFILE=E:\R6debug.file in the notes.ini those messages do appear in the debug file but still don't come to the server console.

I have several other Domino 9.0.1 servers that behave normally but something happened to this one server. Does anyone have a clue to what

is causing this?

Thanks.

Hi Kevin,

What values are in the LOG= parameter in the server's notes.ini?

Have you tried recreating the log.nsf? It may have already been recreated during the server re-install but if not it would be worth a try.

Messages not going to server console

Mark, my log setting is:  Log=log.nsf,1,0,90,40000

I don't think the problem is with logging. What does come to the console (ie: responses to commands and what Amgr spits

out when agents run) does get logged. It is just normal messages are no longer coming to the console. I went through

notes.ini and the server document with a fine tooth comb and cannot find anything. I am suspecting something in the

Java console is preventing the messages from appearing and if they don't appear they don't get logged to log.nsf.

I have re-created log.nsf to no avail.

Messages not coming to server console is fixed

I found the problem. It was the Log filters in EVENTS4.NSF. I modified the setting and the messages are now coming to the console and to log.nsf.

When you change the filters they take effect immediately. We replicate this database to multiple servers in our domain. Someone made a change and

when it hit the server I was having problems with, the messages stopped. This accounts for one minute the messages were coming and the next

they didn't.

Console Logging

check your notes.in file to see if there are any logging level parameters set.  Normally, if a level has been set to "0", the feature has been disabled.
