Windows 10 Creator edition blue screen

  • Category: Install

Hi,

I have just installed Windows 10 Creator edition.

Everything fine until I start using Notes 9.0.1 FP6 social edition 32 bit (Local).

After a few minutes, I get blue screen : Unexpected Kernel mode trap.

Microsoft says my mail system is not compatible... and I should use Outlook :-)

Do I have another choice than reverting to previous Windows version ?

Thanks for your advice.

Creators Update - Notes - Unexpected Kernel Mode Trap

I have the same problem:

Environment Mac OS X Sierra -> Parallels -> Windows Creators Update -> IBM Lotus Notes Designer Admin 9.0.1 FP8

The problem happens after the start of the client when the client tries to open the mail file.

I tried it multiple times with a restart of the mac also.

The latest update of parallels (12 April 2017) is installed

The first blue screen after years!

Best Regards

Workaround: Creators Update - Notes - Unexpected Kernel Mode Trap

As a workaround you can start notes with the parameter -sa  in Basic Mode. This seems to be stable.

Workaround: Creators Update - Notes - Unexpected Kernel Mode Trap

Hi Klaus,

I have already tried to open Notes in basic mode. Blue Screen still persist there, so I guess you were just lucky to have it opened

Edit: tried now again and it works in basic mode now. Will still investigate/check up for a longer period of time

Is the issue seen with FP8?

Andrei, Is this also being seen with FP8 applied to the client?  Feature Pack 8 with Interim Fix 1 is out.

Only 3 crashes in a week

Only 3 crashes in a week, this seems quite stable ;-).

Better anyway than standard edition.

Anyone heard of an IBM reaction ?

Can you try running the Notes basic client to see if that causes the same issue?

Fix from Microsoft
Delete this registry entry and the crash should go away

PageHeapFlags, VerifierFlags from
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Image File Execution Options\notes.exe

Re: Fix from Microsoft

Dear Ram,

We couldn't locate the above mentioned Registry Entries (notes.exe entry is missing at all at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Image File Execution Options\ ) .

Is this the solution IBM provided you or you've found the solution yourself?

Thank you

NOT REPRODUCED

Hi,

I am running Domino Designer 9.0.1 FP8 IF1 on Windows 10 Pro 1703 (64bit) and have NEVER experienced this issue. I don't think it has to do with Notes but a bad driver.  You need to contact Microsoft support and work with them to find what is causing the problem.  I see no evidence that Notes is the cause of this problem.

I can reproduce the crash 100%

Hi,

I'm using the IBM Notes Standard client for 4 years. The first thing i did 4 years ago is to set a custom home with the frames (standard mail and calendar view).

After I upgraded to Windows 10 Creators Update the bluescreen occurred every time I opened the client.

Version installed: 9.0.1 FP8 IF1 with developer, admin and standard client. I can't remember the exact name :)

After I experienced my first bluescreen opening the standard client. I tried to reinstall the whole developer installation with no success...the bluescreen still occurred.

I cleaned my data folder with all configuration and reconfigured everything.

Everything worked with no bluescreen...

Then after I tried to created my personal homepage the screen loads and after a couple of seconds...the bluescreen occurs.

I can reproduce this effect 100%.

I usually create a homepage with 2 frames: one with my inbox and the other with my calendar. No preview pane.

I hope this is useful.

Re: Windows 10 Creator edition blue screen - can reproduce

I can reproduce the behaviour Manuel mentioned.

This only happens, when the user has created a personal homepage. If he goes with the Discover page or even the blank defaut homepage the crashes don't occur.

How to get rid of a personal homepage

That's exactly my finding, too, the personal homepage. How can I get rid of it, if Notes isn't able to start? Any notes.ini setting that can be deleted?

rename

Rename bookmark.nsf and notes will recreate a new bookmark.  You can go into the hidden view and copy and paste all you favroites into the new file.

You can create a policy for a corp hope page but the client might crash before the policy gets activated

IBM doesn't need to fix anything

I think the problem is not with the Notes client. Even a critical error in a hardware driver doesn't trigger a bluescreen.

It's a problem with Windows 10 CU! Probably a change in a dll or directx that deprecates functions present in the personal homepage.

Windows has to catch errors like this....what would happen if this happens on a terminal server. Bluescreen for everyone :-)

IBM hat sich gemeldet auf meinen Supportfall

https://blog.crmfornotes.de/crm4notes/blog.nsf/dx/08.06.2017100020LGEBE4.htm

"Microsoft have indicated that this impacts in Win32kFull.sys. Microsoft will by the end of month,   have a fix available for this issue. The Win32kFull.sys is  a multi-user driver file that belongs to Windows operating system and it is used to perform its tasks.
We presume if you un-install Windows 10 Creators Update 1703,  there would no longer be an issue with using Notes."

Question about the fix

Hi, I'm glad that Microsoft acknowledged the issue.

Will this fix be available directly in Windows Update or do we have to download the fix manually?

Thank you for your post.

The current fix doesn't help

W10CU + KB4025342 here. No more blue screens, which is good, but not everything is fixed. Designer behaves oddly: the Events tab is empty, some XAgents cannot be modified and saved, many JavaScript boxes don't work, and sometimes design elements cannot be opened at all. In the latter case, the Designer displays a non-functioning tab wirh 'Client/Server JS Editor' on it. I think it is also a memory problem, for Firefox sometimes takes more than 1.1 Gb...

Desperately waiting for yet another update!!

PS Verzeihung bitte, I too live in France... ;-)

MalwareBytes lock

Probably my bad... I tried to reinstall Notes + FP8 once again, and the installer told me that it couldn't overwrite notes2.exe: Access denied. The file got "stuck" in a folder (in C:\Program Files (x86)\IBM\Notes\framework\rcp\eclipse\plugins\com.ibm.rcp.base_9.0.1.20131002-1404\win32\x86). I tried everything to remove the file manually, until I found out using the Process Explorer that the file was locked by MalwareBytes. Exit MalwareBytes, reinstall Notes + FP8, and now it all seems to work again.

By the way, I had to remove the Workspace sub-folder as well. Now it's solved.
