Hello:

I am trying to determine if and how IBM Traveler works with IMSMO?  I know they can not run on the same system and I know that IMSMO is largely IBM Traveler that has been modified to support MS Outlook as a client.  However, I am curious about their co-existence.  How do you handle users that want the flexibility to use say a Surface Pro 4 with the same ease as they use an iPhone or an iPad?

The thing I found so different between the two is that with IMSMO, the user's mail file has to be a replica on the IMSMO server.  This is not the case with Traveler and sort of prevents the use of IMSMO in the DMZ, away from the actual mail server.  Can IBM Traveler be used with the Outlook client?  What would be the limitations?  How do others handle the issue of execs with new tablets that do not want to be inconvenienced with the use of a VPN client?

One last question:  Does the current version of IMSMO support Outlook 2016 (64-bit)?  Is it still limited to an older 32-bit version of Outlook?

Many thanks in advance:

Richard Wessels, Houston, TX.

I dont see any reason why Traveler and IMSMO shouldn't work together

I dont see any reason why Traveler and IMSMO shouldn't work together, it will be two different servers but a phone or tablet can use Traveler and an Outlook client can use IMSMO. Some answers in the links.

Current version does support Outlook 2016 and 64 bit clients (as well as 2010 and 2013)

IMSMO and Traveler can be used together so long as they are on different servers (IMSA, the IMSMO server component on mail and Traveler on remote).
Its true that IMSA and Traveler cannot be on the same server, since as you suspected IMSA uses some specially configured Traveler components.

The comments about the DMZ are just a statement of your environment though (albeit a common one).  IMSMO is a desktop client and can be used wherever a Notes client can be used - its not a mobile client and the fact that DMZ access is different might certainly be desired.

But, if you want your tablets to access outside the DMZ, you can set up a sprayer that has access outside the DMZ and routes the requests to the IMSA servers behind the firewall (IBM Mobile Connect, etc)

Can IBM Traveler be used with the Outlook client?  No.
