ODS 51 vs 52 and DB size

I'm the developer for a DB that is over 15 years old. It contains over 80K docs, around half of which include 20+ attachments, though the attachments are normally very small.

The server DB is ODS 51 and ~46.5GB. I have a full local replica that is ODS 52 and is ~28GB. I don't know whether DAOS is enabled on the server.

Would merely switching the server to ODS 52 reduce the DB size? Or would tinkering with DB properties (see below) give more bang for the buck? Or is the ideal thing doing both? I'm not sure what the admins are allowed to do, but I want to at least ask them whatever makes sense. Thanks!

ODS and File Size

The ODs of the database does not effect the size of the database.

Database Properties

Editing the database properties will change the size of the database (compression or none), and using DAOS wil also change the database size.

View Indices

I assume that the server database is in use and all view indeces are built. These affect the nsf size on the server.

You can activate DAOS, Design and Document compression, this will reduce the size, but only after a copy style compact.

If the server is on 9.0.1FP8 you can enable NIFNSF support and separate t1he view index from the database.

Thanks - I forgot about view indices
I didn't think ODS by itself affected the size (as Bradley pointed out) and I wondered why the server replica was so much bigger. Duh - I forgot about the impact of views.

We are at FP7 currently, but I'll keep an eye out for FP8. Thanks for the info.
