We have a SME client who uses British Telecom (BT) as their email provider. This was originally hosted by BT using MS Exchange and about 2 years ago they outsourced the provision of email to both SME Business users and Home users. Users have the option of using the standard cloud Outlook 365 web client or using a desktop client such as Outlook 2010, Outlook 2013 or in the case of our client they use IBM Notes.  They have a Domino mail server and users have a Local copy of their mail NSF on their laptops. When in the office they route outgoing mail via the Domino server or when away from the office via a local SMTP account.  They receive mail using a POP3 (SSL) account using port 995 & connected to the Outlook 365 cloud server -- outlook.office365.com and their personal email account. This enables them to manage all their mail locally and retain a full replica on the companies Domino server.

Users were recently upgraded to IBM Notes 9.0.1 (from 8.5.3) and everything was working smoothly.  This week however all incoming mail failed with the replication throwing an SSL IO error. We trouble-shooted this with BT support, updated the Outlook cloud server reference to -- outlook.office365.com -- this appeared to resolve the issue for a short period then the incoming POP3 connection failed.  We investigated further and realised this could be related to the SSLv3 & TLS changes that are being deployed across the internet.

Bottom line, we applied the latest Notes client Fix Pack Release 9.0.1FP3 SHF109 which includes all the POODLE and related security fixes.  This resolve the issue and POP3 (SSL) incoming mail is now working as expected.

Guess this could apply to other cloud email providers and thought it would be worth sharing.
